The much awaited “DJ – Duvvada Jagannadham” finally hit the screens today all over. The film was involved in some controversy and for a while its release on the date announced appeared doubtful. However, it finally has been released as planned. The film rides on very high expectations since the hero is going to be seen in a never before avatar. Let us see if the film matches up to these expectations.

Dhuvvada Jagannadham (Allu Arjun in the titular role) is a Brahmin boy who earns a living cooking food in marriages and other parties. Seeing his helping nature a high level policeman Murali Sharma ropes him in as a cop undercover with the nickname ‘DJ’. At around the same time the hero sees Pooja Hegde and falls head over heels in love with her instantly. She is the daughter of a top politician (Posani Krishnamurali). This politician also is in a nexus with criminal by name Royyala Naidu (Rao Ramesh playing the role that his father played many years ago). DJ decides to confront Royyala Naidu who is also masquerading in disguise. How the hero confronts of the villain and learns of his identity and how he overcomes the politician – criminal nexus and brings the wrong doers to book is the content of the story.

The first half of the film is very fast paced and has plenty of hilarious comedy to offer. The entire first half is very entertaining. The second half in comparison is a tad slower and dragging. The hero and heroine do show tremendous chemistry between them but the conflict between the hero and the villain falls flat. The film could have been much shorter but for editing lapses. The director tried an experimental climax different from others which came out well.

Performance of the Stars:
Allu Arjun is the very life and backbone of the film. He is simply excellent in the film. He dons the role of the Brahmin boy excellently with the perfect diction so typical of that community. He also rocks as the undercover cop. He literally carries the entire film on his shoulders. The makers did not make a mistake in selecting him to play the lead. Pooja Hegda was stunningly beautiful and glamorous. The hero and heroine worked out an excellent chemistry between each other. Rao Ramesh repeats the character of Royyala Naidu which his father played years ago. He was perfection personified in that role. All other artists contributed well to the film.

Technical Performance:
The music provided by Rock Star Devi Sri Prasad is brilliant. The songs and background score are all excellent. Editing was a big weakness in the film. Cinematography is very good and helps to keep the tempo of the proceedings. The dialogues by Harish Shankar are a highlight in the film. They bring out the humour very well. The director has managed to put together an otherwise dull story line and make a very entertaining film. While he brought out the romance element wonderfully he failed in creating a gripping conflict between hero and the villain. Dil Raju is known for not sparing money when it comes to providing appropriate production values. He sticks to his reputation with this film too.

The Final Word:
“DJ – Duvvada Jagannadham” is a good watch for family audiences.
